The Solar Community Housing rebate is designed to assist community housing providers purchase and install solar for their properties. By reducing the upfront cost of solar systems, eligible organisations can potentially reduce the cost of living pressures for tenants.

What is the Solar Community Housing Rebate in VIC?

The Solar Community Housing rebate, per the VIC government, will fund up to $1,400 or a maximum of 50% of the solar costs per rental agreement. The rebate is applicable for the following existing residential dwellings:

Multi-unit dwellings
Free standing homes
Apartments

New buildings or properties currently under construction may not take part in this initiative.

Eligibility for the Solar Community Housing Rebate

In order to qualify for this rebate, applicants must consider the following:

The organisation must be not-for-profit
Affordable rental housing must be provided to low-income households
Demonstrate that the full value of energy savings received through the installation of solar panels will be passed to the renters
The properties that are applying for this rebate are owned or managed by the community housing organisation
The solar energy systems are on the list of approved systems.
